President Tinubu: Infrastructure Spending Targets Citizens’ Prosperity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that his administration’s infrastructure drive and economic reforms are fundamentally designed to improve the welfare and long-term prosperity of Nigerians.
Speaking on Saturday, 4 April 2026, in Iperu, Ogun State, during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport built by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the President described infrastructure as a strategic investment in the people. He also launched two new aircraft for the state-owned Gateway Airline at the event.
“Our investment is about our people. Today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” Tinubu said, noting that the projects underscore his administration’s confidence in Nigeria’s future.
The President highlighted that the newly commissioned airport is powered independently, reflecting ongoing investments in the energy sector. He added that development must be holistic, touching mobility, security, and agriculture, areas he said were being actively addressed through multiple initiatives.
As part of the visit, Tinubu commissioned 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors, describing the adoption of electric mobility as a forward-looking response to modern transportation challenges.
He said embracing clean technology over fossil fuels would enhance efficiency and improve daily life.

The President commended Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress, noting that ongoing reforms have increased revenues available to sub-national governments.
He praised state governors for the judicious use of resources and lauded Abiodun for aligning Ogun State’s development agenda with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also recognised the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives aimed at improving ease of doing business and enhancing personnel welfare. He assured that the country would remember his contributions.
During the ceremony, the President additionally inaugurated a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic, commending his economic reforms, including foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal, and fiscal restructuring, which he said have boosted investor confidence and strengthened public finance.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio reiterated the National Assembly’s role in sustaining democracy, while urging further reforms in the power sector, including the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also commended Tinubu’s leadership, reflecting on Ogun State’s developmental progress over the past five decades.
Other dignitaries at the event included Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani, and Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso, alongside several state governors and traditional rulers.
