Ogun 1, Seme Customs Secure Quarter-Final Spots in Zone A Inter-Command Football Competition
The Ogun 1 Area Command and Seme Customs on Thursday, 20 August 2026, secured quarter-finals spots in the football event of the maiden Zone A Inter-Command Games after recording victories in their respective matches at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos.
Ogun 1 team got its campaign off in the football match, to a winning start with a 2-1 victory over the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, in a keenly contested encounter.
The team came out strongly and took control of the game early, scoring twice in the first half to put FOU Zone A on the back foot.

FOU however, responded in the second half and pulled one goal back, but Ogun 1 held firm to secure a 2-1 victory and advance to the next stage of the competition.
In another football fixture, Seme Customs and Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) played out a goalless draw after 90 minutes before Seme Area Command emerged victorious in the penalty shootout.
Seme converted four of its five penalty kicks, while LFTZ scored two and missed two attempts to hand Seme Customs victory and a place in the quarter-finals.
The football competition was one of the major highlights of the day’s activities as the maiden Zone A Inter-Command Games continued with officers competing across different sporting activities.
While the personnel displayed teamwork, fitness and competitive spirit through out the games, the results from the day saw Ogun 1 and Seme Commands secure quarter-final places, joining TinCan Island and Apapa, which had earlier advanced to the knockout stage.
The competition, which commenced on Monday, 17 August 2026, at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, aimed at promoting work-life balance, physical fitness, teamwork and stronger collaboration among officers across Zone A.
The Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Mohammed Babandede, through the Customs Area Controller, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Comptroller Chidi Nwokorie, had stated during the opening ceremony that the initiative was founded on the principle that a healthy workforce would deliver stronger performance and greater productivity.
“The strength of the Nigeria Customs Service does not depend solely on our training, discipline and professional competence; it also depends on the physical and mental well-being of the officers who carry out these responsibilities every day,” he said.
With the competition gathering momentum, attention is now shifted to the knockout stage as the successful commands continue their quest for the inaugural Zone A Inter-Command Games trophy.
