DC Adewole Sends Strong Warning to Economic Saboteurs as Oyo/Osun Customs Seizes N2.53bn Contraband

The Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/Osun Area Command has stepped up its game, intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts across the region. In the last two months, the Command seized contraband worth Two Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty-One Million, Ninety-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Six Naira Only (₦2,531,091,846.00K), sending a strong warning to economic saboteurs to desist from illegal activities.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Thursday, 26 March 2026, the acting Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs WM Adewole noted that the seizures were made at different locations across Oyo and Osun States through credible intelligence and coordinated patrol operations.

He highlighted the seized items to include: Foreign Parboiled Rice (50kg Each) 1,603 Bags, 123 Bales of Used Clothing (18 Sacks), Used Shoes 88 Sacks, Used Tyres 1,351 Pieces, Used Compressors 206 Pieces,

Indian Hemp -1,144 Wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 4 Colorado, 1 Canadian Loud, 1 Ace, 29 Plastic Bottles of vegetable oil, Tramadol (250mg) 3,300 Packs 2,140 Sachets,

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) 692 Kegs (17,300 Liters), Foreign New Textiles 2,270 Packs.

 

Others are used cars and means of conveyance.

 

On revenue generated into government coffer, the DC informed that a total sum of Fourteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty-Five Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Six Naira, Five Kobo (₦14,745,741,806.05K) was recorded within the period under review.

 

This reflects a 46.22% increase when compared to ₦10.1Billion recorded for the same period in 2025.

 

According to acting Controller, the revenue achievement reflects the Command’s commitment to blocking revenue leakages, ensuring compliance with extant laws, and facilitating legitimate trade.

 

He further warned economic saboteurs that the Command will not relent in its efforts to curb illegal activities.

“We are fully committed to enforcing government fiscal policies and protecting the nation’s economy. I also wish to appeal to members of the public to support the Nigeria Customs Service by providing timely and useful information that will aid our operations. Compliance with import and export regulations remains the best approach to avoid sanctions”, he stressed.

 

DC Adewole concluded reaffirming the Command’s resolve to discharging its responsibilities with professionalism, transparency, and integrity.

Our appreciation also goes to the traditional rulers across both States for their continuous support in promoting lawful trade and discouraging smuggling within their domains.
