MARAN Set to Honour its Past Presidents

As part of its commitment to recognising the outstanding contributions of its leaders, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has finalised plans to honour its past Presidents in grand style at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos on Friday, 24 April 2026, by 3:00 pm.
This inaugural initiative will acknowledge their dedication and service to the association, particularly during challenging times that have shaped the group into a formidable force in the maritime industry.
According to a statement signed by MARAN’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tunde Ayodele, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Funso Olojo, the event will recognise the contributions of living past leaders and pay tribute to its four departed presidents, with their families receiving posthumous awards on their behalf.

Mr. Ayodele informed that invitations have been extended to friends and associates of the honourees to participate in what he described as an epoch-making occasion.
“As an organisation which values the contributions of its leaders, MARAN is celebrating its past Presidents for their vision, passion, zeal, tenacity of purpose, sacrifices, resilience and persistence in the face of adversity and daunting challenges that have shaped the association into the foremost and formidable group of journalists in the maritime industry,” he said.
The Chairman expressed sadness over the demise of four former presidents of the association, stressing they would be honoured posthumously for their contributions through their family members.
He described the timing of the event as appropriate, coinciding with the appointment of one of its past presidents, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, as Special Adviser on Communications to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
“The career advancement of Dr Bolaji gladdens our heart at MARAN for being one of the past presidents of this great association and there isn’t a better platform than this event to show appreciation to the Honourable Minister for finding one of our own worthy as one of his special aides,” Mr Ayodele added.
