Islamic Scholar, Asanbe Warns Muslim Umar Against Showboating at Owutu FM’s 2026 Ramadan Lecture

An Islamic Scholar and Chief Imam of Agelete Central Mosque, Ikoyi Lagos, Alhaji Jamiu Asanbe, has cautioned Muslim Umar against what he described as showboating, the act of doing deeds to impress others or draw attention to oneself. Doing good deeds to gain recognition and praise.

Speaking at Owutu FM’s 2026 Ramadan Lecture in Lagos on Saturday, 28 February 2026, Sheikh Asanbe stressed the need for sincerity in every Muslim’s action.

He emphasised that Muslims should display good deeds for better rewards in the hereafter.

Asanbe advised Muslim faithfuls to be sincere in their belief in Almighty Allah, not mixing anything with God, saying it’s not just about prayers and fasting, but being faithful in their actions.

The Cleric also urged everyone to use the sacred month to increase acts of giving, extending it to the needy and orphans.

Earlier, the convener of the event and CEO of Owutu FM, Hajia Adejoke Muyibat Balogun, enjoined guests to see the month as a moment of reflection and add value to the community.

She described the topic as a well thought-out theme, aimed at inspiring spirituality, strengthening faith, and promoting peaceful co-existence within the community.

Balogun appreciated the massive turnout of guests and reaffirmed commitment to continuity with Allah’s mercy.

The 2026 Ramadan Lecture was graced by representatives from Uzamot Communications, Yeye Asiwaju of Ojota Kingdom, Okutex Fabrics, among others. Gifts were also presented to Quiz winners and iftar food items were shared with guests.
