The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have strengthened security partnership at Idiroko Border following an official working visit by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni to the Ogun 1 Area Command of the NCS on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Zakari Chado, the visit underscored the strategic security and economic partnership between the two agencies and the shared commitment of safeguarding the border while facilitating legitimate trade.
During the visit, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the controller for enhancing security and facilitating smooth trade at the nation’s borders.

He noted that since assuming office he had not received any crime complaints from Idiroko, despite being one of Ogun State’s busiest border zones.
The Commissioner attributed the peace and stability in the area to the strong security collaboration championed by DC Afeni.
He praised the continued support and seamless synergy between police and customs personnel, commending the exceptional inter-agency collaboration and peace within the strategic Idiroko border corridor.
CP Ojajuni lauded the exceptional professionalism and orderly security arrangements at the Idiroko-Igolo border, describing them as evidence of strong leadership and mutual trust.
He also recognised the corridor’s vital economic importance, commending the Acting Customs Area Controller for fostering a cooperative atmosphere that has optimized regional security and minimized unnecessary checkpoints.
Responding, the Ag. Customs Area Controller, Deputy Compt. Oladapo Afeni appreciated the Commissioner for the visit and commended all security agencies for maintaining cordial and productive working relationships.

He reiterated that beyond the NCS’s statutory mandate of revenue generation, the Service also plays a vital role in trade facilitation, border security, and national economic development.
The Controller reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to strengthening collaboration with all security agencies.
Highlighting recent achievements, Afeni referenced a joint “Show of Force” security operation conducted alongside Nigerian and Beninnese counterparts, an initiative which successfully demonstrated the unified strength and readiness of both nations to counter cross-border crime.
Afeni explained that upon assuming office, he inherited multiple security checkpoints along the corridor, however, through sustained dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding with sister agencies under the joint border security committee, under his leadership, the Command has reduced the number of checkpoints.
This, according to him, has significantly eliminated bottlenecks to ease movement, streamline operations to improve efficiency, facilitate legitimate trade, and enhance security without compromising operational effectiveness.
He further informed that the Nigeria Customs Service was recently rated 100% in compliance with the Ease of Doing Business metrics, a testament to ongoing modernization and trade-friendly reforms.

The visit concluded with the exchange of plaques, reaffirming the shared commitment of both agencies to maintaining an enabling environment for lawful commercial activities while safeguarding national security.
