As part of efforts to ease cross-border trade and bring relief to residents of the communities along the Kamba–Tungan Gyado corridor, the Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) on Thursday, 27 August 2026, reinforced its synergy with Nigerien Customs (Douanes du Niger) to facilitate legitimate trade and boost revenue.
This development followed a courtesy visit by Douanes du Niger’s delegation led by Niger Republic Comptroller Abdoulaye Vincent to the Customs Command’s Headquarters in Kebbi.
According to a press statement issued by Kebbi Customs Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Mubarak, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Abdoulaye Vincent appreciated the Kebbi Command’s Area Controller, Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim for hosting the delegation and advocated stronger collaboration between the two customs administrations particularly in facilitating trade along Kamba corridor.
Vicent identified the insecurity along the Burkina Faso and Togo routes, as well as the prevailing diplomatic situation with Benin Republic, which had disrupted trade.
He therefore appealed for increased legitimate exports through Kamba to boost revenue and ease economic hardship for communities along the corridor and beyond.
Receiving the delegation, the Kebbi Customs Area Controller Matawalle Ibrahim commended them for the visit, underscoring the importance of their initiative to improving livelihoods in border communities.
Matawalle reaffirmed Kebbi Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nigerien Customs and facilitating legitimate cross-border trade.
He also pledged to sensitise stakeholders on Customs procedures and encourage greater use of the Kamba corridor, noting that increased trade would boost revenue, create jobs and improve livelihoods in border communities.
The Area Controller equally announced plans to visit the Nigerien Customs Command in Dosso to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and trade facilitation.
The engagement concluded with appreciation from the Sarkin Shikon Kamba, who thanked the CAC for providing an enabling environment for stakeholders to conduct legitimate business and commended him for demonstrating concern for the welfare and economic wellbeing of the people of Kamba, offering prayers for the success of the collaboration.
Stakeholders at the engagement include: Chairman, Dendi Ganda, Sarkin Shikon Kamba Mamuda Zarumai; Secretary-General, SNAT Gaya, Abubakar Inusa; among others.
