Customs, DSS Renew Commitment to Strengthen Security Synergy in Kogi State

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Department of State Service (DSS) have renewed their commitment to deepening partnership and strengthening security synergy across Kogi States, following a courtesy visit by the Customs Area Controller of the Niger/Kogi Area Command, Comptroller Muhammad Sani Umar to the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Aliyu Bashir on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Abubakar AbdulKareem Zakariya, the move underscored the commitment of both agencies to strengthening cooperation and intelligence sharing in tackling emerging security challenges.

During the visit, Comptroller Umar emphasised the importance of synergy, intelligence sharing and sustained collaboration among sister agencies, noting that effective cooperation remains critical to addressing emerging security challenges.

He stressed that both agencies need one another to effectively discharge their mandates.

The Customs Area Controller also highlighted the importance of joint efforts in monitoring the movement of goods and persons, adding that improved coordination would significantly enhance national security and safeguard the economy.

Responding, the DSS State Director, Mr. Aliyu Bashir, commended the Area Controller for the visit and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service.

He stressed the need to extend the relationship beyond the leadership level by fostering stronger cooperation among personnel at the operational and field levels.

Bashir also called for continuous engagement and interaction between officers of both agencies to ensure seamless intelligence sharing and more effective service delivery.

The visit ended with both agencies renewing their commitment to deepening their partnership and strengthening security synergy across Kogi State.
