Oyo/Osun Customs Command Records N3.2bn Seizure, N28.5bn Revenue in Major Operational Push

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, on Thursday, 28 June 2026, announced massive seizure of contraband goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.2 billion and the collection of N28.5 billion in revenue between March and May 2026, representing an 8 per cent increase over the N26.4 billion generated during the corresponding period of 2025.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing held at the Command’s headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole made the announcement, attributing the results to sustained intelligence-driven operations, and enhanced collaboration with sister security agencies.

He also linked the feats to the dedication and professionalism of the Command’s officers and men.

Among the items intercepted during the period under review are 1,537 bags of foreign parboiled rice 50kg each (DPV: ₦286,850,310.00); 102 bales and 13 sacks of used clothing (₦217,520,888.00); 56 sacks of used shoes (₦368,161,737.00); 1,105 pieces of used tyres (₦204,486,399.00); and 604 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit totalling 15,100 litres (₦49,316,978.00).

Significant quantities of controlled substances were also intercepted, including 2,158 sachets of Tramadol 250mg (₦325,748,549.00), 3,437 packs of Tramadol 250mg (₦844,987,500.00), 1,769 wraps of Cannabis Sativa (₦167,660,513.00), and assorted pharmaceutical products spanning Rohypnol, Hiegra, Mygra, Analgin Injection, and 142 cartons of other pharmaceuticals. Several vehicles were also seized, including a GMC (₦72,001,688.00), a Fiat Tipper Truck (₦101,055,000.00), three Toyota Hiace buses (₦98,528,625.00), a Toyota Corolla (₦47,243,213.00), and other assorted vehicles with a combined value running into hundreds of millions of naira.

In one of the more significant interceptions, three pump-action rifles were seized and three suspects have been arrested in connection with the attempted smuggling of the firearms.

He stated that, “In connection with the seizure of the three pump-action rifles, three suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing investigation”.

DC Adewole stated that the Command is working closely with the Customs Intelligence Unit, Customs Police Unit, and the Legal Unit to unravel the full circumstances of the case and ensure all persons connected with the unlawful act are brought to justice.

Through intelligence gathering and collaboration with the Amotekun Corps in Ibadan, the Acting Controller informed that the Command also apprehended a suspect involved in fraudulent activities and impersonation.

According to him, the suspect allegedly defrauded members of the public by falsely claiming to facilitate recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service in exchange for financial gratification. “Investigation into the matter is ongoing,” he noted.

The Command used the occasion to reiterate that recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service is transparent, merit-based, and conducted strictly through officially approved channels, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and disregard any individual offering employment in the Service in exchange for money.

On revenue, the Command collected ₦28,503,393,802.75 between March and May 2026, compared with ₦26,233,796,496.57 generated during the same period in 2025, an increase of approximately ₦2.27 billion.

 

DC Adewole credited the performance to the dedication of officers and men, the cooperation of compliant stakeholders, and the Command’s sustained efforts to plug revenue leakages.

The press briefing also preceded a Commendation Awards ceremony, at which deserving officers and men were recognised for exemplary conduct, exceptional dedication, and outstanding service delivery. The Acting Controller congratulated all recipients and commended the entire workforce for their resilience and commitment.

Deputy Comptroller Adewole further assured the general public that the Oyo/Osun Area Command would remain resolute in combating smuggling, facilitating legitimate trade, protecting national security, and contributing to the economic growth of the nation.

He expressed appreciation to sister security agencies, the business community, and the media for their continued partnership and support.
