MARAN Gears Up for Landmark Reception to Honour Former Presidents

With just 12 days to go, preparations are in top gear as the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) moves closer to its reception honouring past presidents on Friday, 24 April 2026.

MARAN noted that the landmark event has continued to attract strong interest and support from key stakeholders across the maritime industry, following weeks of planning and engagement.

The high-profile reception is expected to bring together ministry officials, policymakers, regulators, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other industry players.

Beyond celebrating former leaders, the event is also aimed at reinforcing the role of maritime journalism in shaping policy, promoting accountability, and driving sectoral growth.

Speaking on the development, Chairman of MARAN’s Caretaker Committee, Mr Tunde Ayodele, said the reception would provide an opportunity to reflect on the legacies of past presidents whose leadership helped position the association as a respected voice in the maritime sector.

He added that the event would also serve to strengthen collaboration between the media and industry operators, particularly at a time when the sector is undergoing reforms and modernisation.

Also, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Funso Olojo, stated that notable dignitaries from government institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as well as heads of key maritime agencies, have indicated interest in attending the event.

He noted that several corporate organisations and industry groups have also expressed willingness to support the initiative, underscoring its importance to the broader maritime community.

Mr. Olojo described the reception as a platform to celebrate excellence, dedication, and quality leadership demonstrated by former MARAN presidents, many of whom, he said, have continued to excel in diverse fields, including media, law, public service, and entrepreneurship.

According to the planning committee, the event will also highlight the continued impact and achievements of these past leaders beyond journalism.

The reception will be held at Rockview Hotel and will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and networking sessions aimed at deepening engagement among stakeholders.

As the event draws closer, the association has called on industry stakeholders, corporate organisations, and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative through sponsorships, partnerships, and active participation.
