It is one thing to successfully promote and protect an organisation’s image; it is a different ballgame to carry out this task with Dedication, Integrity, Loyalty and Commitment.

As National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), DC Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada has shown these qualities amidst challenges.

Since his appointment as the substantive Customs PRO in April 2023, he has excelled in reshaping narratives and driving impactful change within the system, and with the support of his team, he has achieved desired results.

Exactly one year ago, 27 December 2024, I wrote about Abdullahi Maiwada’s promotion to the rank of Assistant Comptroller of Customs highlighting his GRIT personality and stressing how he deserves more to his rank. Now, he has earned another well deserved rank- Deputy Comptroller of Custom.

Following in the footsteps of his superiors, who currently hold strategic positions in the Service, the Comptroller- General of the Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR (an exceptional leader, who combined humility with dedication and professionalism) and Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Enforcement, Inspection, and Investigation, DCG Timi Bomodi; was never an easy task, but his commitment and adaptability earned him the new rank.

Since being decorated with this new rank, Maiwada has continued to discharge his duty with his unique trait of CHAIR (Courage, Humility, Adaptability, Integrity, and Resilience) value, knowing fully well that the role comes with deeper responsibility.

No wonder he dedicated his new rank to the hardworking Officers and Men of the Service’s Public Relations Unit whose support according to him continues to inspire him.

During his decoration, he said the promotion strengthens his resolve to serve the Service with even greater commitment, adding “I dedicate this rank to the hardworking Officers and Men of the Public Relation Unit whose support continues to inspire me. It is also a morale booster, and I assure the Service that we will not relent in projecting its reforms and achievements with clarity and integrity”.

This special promotion is a testament to his hardwork and dedication to the Service, likewise his leadership which has been instrumental in shaping the Agency’s image.

DC Abdullahi Maiwada is gradually becoming a towering figure in Customs, inspiring colleagues and subordinates alike with his commitment and leadership.

With his new role, Maiwada is expected to bring more strategies to the table, further enhancing the Service’s reputation, as the Agency is poised for greater heights with Officers like him leading.
