PTML Customs Hands Over Seized Arms, Ammunition to NCCSALW, Reports N44.05bn Revenue in January

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ports and Terminal Multiservice Limited, PTML Command has handed over seized arms and ammunition to representatives of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) South West Zone, in line with the Service’s shared commitment to inter-agency collaboration and cooperation.

Addressing journalists at the handover briefing on Friday, 30 January 2026, in the Command, Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joe Anani noted that the seizures were made between 2022 and 2025, highlighting the command’s commitment to anti-smuggling efforts and inter-agency collaboration.

He attributed the successful seizures to collective due diligence of the command and other sister agencies in the port, reiteratng PTML remains a no-go area for unlawful trade under any guise.

The seized items include: Five (5) pistols of different make, One (1) Crossman pump master rifle, One hundred and thirty two (132) numbers of Remington live cartridges, Fifty One (51) numbers of 9mm Lugar live ammunition, Four (4) Numbers of 9mm magazines, Forty (40) Numbers of 9mm, NIM FC 30-30 blank and hollow ammunitions, and One hundred and eighteen numbers (118) of 9mm empty shells.

Comptroller Anani explained that the arms and ammunition were uncovered in 25 different occasions by customs officers during examination of imported vehicles.

On revenue mandate, he said the command collected ₦44,058,849,416.65 in revenue, an 8.8% increase from January 2025.

According to the Comptroller, “On revenue drive of the command, Two(2) days to the end of the month, the command collected a total of forty four billion, fifty eight million, eight hundred and forty nine thousand, four hundred and sixteen naira, sixty five kobo (₦44,058,849,416.65) surpassing forty billion, four hundred and ninety seven million, five hundred and ninety four thousand, two hundred and twenty three naira, eighty nine kobo (N40,497,594,223.89) collected in Jan, 2025 by three billion, five hundred and sixty one million, (N3,561,255,192.76), that’s 8.8% increase in revenue”.

He appreciated compliant stakeholders for their cooperation and contributions to the command’s success story.

Speaking further, Comptroller Anani stressed that the Command has unshaken commitment to implement the Revised Kyoto Convention, a World Customs Organisation (WCO) instrument for trade facilitation, while using available manpower and technology to exercise the required control for import and export trade.

“Under the NCS Modernisation Project, which began in this command, the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) also known as B’Odogwu has raised the bar of our productivity. I am pleased to announce that this command will receive scanners soon as part of the modernisation project and our capacity to detect concealments, like these arms and ammunition would be greatly enhance,” he stated.

The handover event underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s resolve to curb the proliferation of illicit arms and ammunition in the country, as the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has emphasised the importance of intelligence-driven operations in maintaining national security.

This feat also highlighted the command’s commitment to protecting national borders and maintaining public safety.
