President Tinubu Renews Confidence in CGC Adeniyi, Extends Tenure for One Year

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has renewed his confidence in the visionary leadership displayed by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, extending his tenure as head of the Service for another one year.
Since his appointment as the overall Chief of the Service on 19 October 2023, CGC Adeniyi has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, driving reforms that have transformed the Agency and elevated Nigeria’s global standing.
In a statement signed and released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Thursday, the Presidency announced that the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, which is due to expire on August 31, 2025, has been extended by one year.

The extension, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, according to the statement, will enable CGC Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of the present administration.
The reforms include: the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service; the implementation of the National Single Window Project; and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
The statement reads further that the President recognised CGC Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service and is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Recall that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, had approved the confirmation of the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, effective from 19th October, 2023, which was in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
The President then tasked him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in his assignment, and the CGC has continued to bring his leadership prowess to bear, driving impactful changes and promoting Nigeria’s image globally, particularly with his new role as the Chairman of the World Customs Organisation Council.
