NCS Holds One-Day Capacity Building Programme for 100 Retiring Officers in Abuja

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, held a One-Day Capacity Building Programme for its 100 retiring Officers in Abuja, focusing on post-service career in export, mining and agribusiness.

The workshop, which was organised in partnership with Denca Global Courier Express and the World Trade Centers Association aimed at equipping the Officers with necessary skills and confidence needed to build sustainable post-service career.

Speaking at the training, themed- “From Uniform to Entrepreneur: Navigating Export, Mining and Agribusiness for a successful retirement”, Deputy Comptroller-General Tijani Abe emphasised the importance of early preparation, stating it is essential for a smooth transition.

He noted that in present economy, officers must begin to explore new opportunities across agriculture, export, and the broader value chain.

Abe underscored the importance of having experts to share practical knowledge, urging officers to engage actively and take the training seriously.

“There is need to understand what your immediate environment presents, which can be harnessed and transformed into income within the entire value chain,” DCG Abe remarked.“You will have the privilege of hearing directly from these experts here today on how best to move from uniform to entrepreneur. I have no doubt that you are going to draw richly from the experiences of these resource persons.”

Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, DCG Dera Nnadi delivered a keynote address, describing the programme as an investment in personal well-being and long-term financial independence.

He reminded officers that retirement is not an end but the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunity, especially in agriculture, which remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.

He encouraged them to take advantage of the vast possibilities in export and mining, guided by the knowledge of seasoned professionals.

“The aim is simple; to empower you with the tools to build a new and prosperous future after exiting the Service. I encourage all participants to approach this programme with openness, curiosity, and determination,” DCG Nnadi said.“Your discipline, leadership experience and work ethic have already given you an extra advantage to succeed in this adventure,” he added.

Also, CEO of Denca Global Courier Services, Dr. Onyinye Queen Okpa, delivered an inspiring session on Nigeria’s abundant natural resources.

She noted that the country remains one of the most blessed on earth, with huge export and solid mineral potential still largely untapped.

Queen Okpa urged officers to choose value chains they are passionate about, develop businesses that benefit their communities, and take pride in contributing to national growth. She assured them of continued support as they transition into entrepreneurship.

The training concluded with a vote of thanks, praising participating officers for their enthusiasm and encouraging them to apply what they have learned as they prepare for life after active service.
