‎‎FRCN Sets to Modernise Operations Through Strategic Partnership with Relevant Institutions

‎‎The Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohammed Bulama has revealed that efforts are underway to modernise the Corporation’s operations and also upgrade National Broadcast Academy (NBA) status, through strategic partnership with relevant institutions.‎‎

Dr. Bulama made this known on Friday, 12 December 2025, while fielding questions from the outgoing Journalism participants of the 2025 Advance National Broadcast Academy (NBA) Courses.

‎‎He informed that a committee has been set up to review and oversee the possibilities of partnering relevant institutions to upgrade and reposition the institute.

“As a matter of fact, just last week, we put a committee together to review the position of this institution so that we can properly reposition it. We are looking at everything including the name. I’m not saying this is left for the committee to decide, but we are giving them the leeway,” the DG said. ‎‎”Part of the terms of reference is for them to look at everything about the school, the curriculum, name, status of the school, and explore the possibilities of us partnering with other institutions so that we can upgrade the standard of the school. But beyond that, the management is also looking at transforming the infrastructure of the school”.‎‎

Responding to questions on challenges causing drawbacks to the Corporation, he identified ageing infrastructure, power shortage, outdated technology, staff welfare, obsolete equipment as woes of the Corporation.‎‎

According to the DG, there are also challenges pertaining to the Corporation’s capacity to deploy cutting-edge technology, training and retraining of Staff, welfare motivation and the need for improved condition of service.

‎‎He noted that this is not limited to FRCN but all public broadcasting stations, whic have suffered sustained neglect.

‎‎The DG, however, assured that the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is backing the Corporation’s efforts to tackle the pressing issues.‎‎

He said, “But, I can assure you that this government is doing its best to address this. You know, because this decay has happened over a long period of time. We are not going to solve them overnight. It will take some time. But I want to assure you that we are addressing them.‎ We are thinking outside the box. We are engaging partners to talk, see if the private sectors can come in.

“We received some support from the Federal Government and we are deploying this support and very soon, you will see the visible impact of this. So we are addressing it holistically and comprehensively. What we do need more is the support, prayers, understanding of everybody, all stakeholders, particularly the staff of FRCN and those in power to help us address the highlighted challenges”.

‎‎While congratulating the Graduates for the landmark academic achievements, the DG urged them to make a positive impact with the knowledge acquired from the institution for humanity and the journalism profession.

‎‎”Well, congratulations first and foremost.‎This is the foremost broadcast training academy in the country. So, it’s an opportunity for those of you who are going through this course to be exposed to the high standards that we have here. And we wish you all the best in your respective careers. and I hope that what you learnt here, you put it to very good use for the benefit of not only your career but for humanity and the journalism profession as well,” he stated.‎‎

Earlier, the Director in charge of Engineering Service, FRCN, Engr. Sanda Askira told the participants to be a replica of the institution by showcasing attitude that will portray them as a good ambassador of the academy.‎ ‎

Similarly, the Director of the Academy, Dr. Samuel Anyanwu advised the outgoing participants to take advantage of the moment to reflect, explore and connect with one another to make meaningful impact.‎‎

The closing ceremony, which was organised to honour the graduates on the Ikeja campus of the Academy, brought together other Directors of the Corporation, Academy, Head of Departments, Senior Lecturers, well wishers, and families including ‎Director of Radio Nigeria Investment Limited (RNIL), Mrs Angela Chinyere Oaikhena, Director of Lagos Operations, Princess Adenike Adegoke.
