DC Afeni Targets Bigger Wins in 2026 as Ogun 1 Customs Records 47% Revenue Surge, 487 Seizures

The Acting Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Olukayode Afeni has set sight on exceeding 2026 target, following the impressive results presented by his Command, which shows a 47% revenue surge and 487 seizures.

This result is on the back of the Command’s effort to disrupt smuggling networks in the country, and also underscores it’s unwavering commitment to the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, and trade facilitation.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Thursday, 29 January 2026 in Idiroko, Ogun State, DC Afeni revealed that the Command generated N454,672,406.30 into Federal Government account in 2025, reflecting 47% growth when compared to N275, 835,602.00 revenue generated for the year 2024.

He also informed that the Command collected and remitted the sum of N106, 277,312.00 to federation account from 1st to 28th January 2026, an amount that surpassed the figure generated same month in 2024 which stood at N89,584,419.00 reflecting  84.3% increase.

DC Afeni attributed the success to the diligent efforts of the Command’s gallant officers and the cooperation of compliant traders, stressing the Command is determined to do more and surpass what was collected in 2025.

“The revenue was actualised through the collection from baggage assessment, proceeds from auction sales of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),” he stated.

On anti-smuggling operations, the Command reports 487 seizures through intelligence driven including: Foreign Parboiled Rice, 50kg each – 22,725 Bags equivalent to 37 trailer load, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) – 2,669 kegs (66,725 liters), Red star cartridges- 2,128, Cannabis Sativa – 13,332 Parcels, Used Clothing – 25 Bales, Foreign Used Vehicles – 11 Units and Tractor, Used pneumatic tyres – 2,034 Pieces, Gino Tomatoes 12 cartons, Sugar 50kg 18 Bags, Inhalator insecticide 1 carton, Doga brand spaghetti 10kg 4,228 cartons, Vegetable oil of 25 liters 2,097 kegs, Riodin explosives-1,315 pieces, Dane Guns- 11 units, Revolver pistol- 2 units, Locally made guns- 2 units, Crystal Meth 27 Wraps weighing 28.90kg, Heroin 16 pieces weighing 16kg, Used Boxer Motorcycle 6 Unit (means of conveyance).

The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures according to the DC, for the year 2025 is N4,130,931,100. This shows a difference of N2,339,923,854 when compared to year Duty Paid Value of N1,791,007,246 recorded in 2024.

The Command also made fresh seizures from 1st to 29 January 2026 with a DPV of N721,453,612.

Afeni described the achievements as a testament to the commitment of the Command’s personnel to combating smuggling activities, protecting the economy, and safeguarding the well-being of the society.

“As we began the New Year, our focus has remained on consolidating the gains of 2025. From 1st to 29 January 2026, the command recorded significant seizures including: 1,042 bags of smuggled rice weighing 50kg each, 3,738 parcels of cannabis sativa, 780 Used tyres, 2 Unit of locally made Riffles, 198 pieces of Cartridges, 473 kegs PMS (11,825 liters), 6 Used vehicles and one means of conveyance, 4 sacks 25kg of Caffeine Ahydrous (This will be subjected to further examination by NAFDAC to ascertained the value), 72 packs soduku plant extraction Toothpaste- 120g, 84 Soduku Vitamin D 108g each, 2 pieces of traditional carvings,” he highlighted.

The cannabis sativa, arms and ammunition were handed over to representatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Command and National Center for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) South West Zone respectively for necessary actions.
