Comptroller Olomu, Walks the Talk, Achieves N1 Trillion Revenue Target as Projected

The Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu has successfully achieved the one trillion revenue target he projected to attain by Monday, 12 May 2025.

This milestone followed the Command’s generation of nine hundred and Seventy Seven Billion (N977 billion), announced during the courtesy visit of Admiral Superintendent Naval Dockyard Limited (ASNDL), Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shehu on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

A press statement signed and issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Customs, Tunde Ayagbalo to announce the landmark feat, revealed a figure of one trillion, two billion, nine hundred and sixty eight million, one hundred and Seventy Eight thousand, six hundred and ninety four naira, seven kobo only, (₦1,002,968,178,694.07).

This is truly a landmark achievement in the history of the Service as it was attained forty-five days ahead of completing first half of 2025.

It shows that the Area Controller truly walked the talk. He is not just a revenue officer, he is a maestro, a fiscal wizard, orchestrating revenue success.

Speaking on the latest feat, Comptroller Olomu, fsi, attributed the success to a combination of leadership direction of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, blocking areas of revenue leakages and the diligent discharge of functions on the part of Officers and men in the area.

He said, “Hitting the ₦1 trillion mark before the middle of the fifth month, is a confirmation of the Command’s readiness to surpass the total of ₦2.3 trillion that was collected last year before December 2024”.

The Controller commended the Command’s personnel for sustaining the momentum he initiated since taking office in May 2024 as the Helmsman, and also urged them to intensify efforts in maximizing revenue collection, suppression of smuggling through diligent, thorough cargo examination and facilitating lawful trade.

He also admonished them to sustain and improve intelligence sharing, robust inter- agencies collaboration and regular Stakeholders’ engagements to drive progress and support the nation’s economic growth.

Comptroller Olomu noted that the policy thrust of the CGC, which includes deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, (B’Odogwu) has shown prospects for higher productivity by the Command.

To him, “With the ongoing training of licensed Customs agents and freight forwarders ahead of the full deployment of B’Odogwu, the Command’s chances of surpassing 2024 collection and meeting 2025 target are higher”.

“Our award-winning reputation remains unshaken as we intensify efforts to maintain our excellent record as the leading customs command domiciled in the nation’s premier port.

“This recent revenue collection milestone only goes to show we are not resting on our oars. Going by the examples of our CGC, we have resolved not to be complacent’’.

“It’s important we thank our compliant stakeholders for their support in this journey of national service and reiterate that any unlawful behavior that seeks to undermine national economic drive or compromise the country’s security shall be prevented with full sanctions of the law coming down on perpetrators,” Comptroller Olomu said.

These achievements earned the Command several awards, including the CGC Award of Excellence.

The Area Controller was equally recognised as ‘Best Controller of the Year’ for his exceptional leadership and the Command’s improved capacity in delivering its mandates under his watch, at the Comptroller General of Customs Award night, held in Abuja.

He truly deserved the awards.
